Update 4/11
Hi friends!
Last week, Kyle and Isa went to meet a representative at CoCoKids, a resource center for Families and Child Care providers. Our representative, Ms. Jackie, reviewed our licensing application, and let us know what changes we need to make so that we can sail through the application process. Isa did such a great job, there were only just a couple of things to update!
We also visited our Richmond Rotary Club Meeting to get to know our community. Serendipitously, a number of the Rotary members we met are (or were) educators as well as musicians! There was even a member who lives up the hill from The Music Box and looking forward to joining our all-ages Ukulele Club.
In other news, Kyle passed his RICA exam - yay! This means he will keep his multi-subject teaching credential valid for the next 10 years!
Next steps include updating our facilities. We need to build fences, re-paint, and childproof our spaces. Put a door that goes from the 2nd bedroom of the main house to the rear unit and install wall cabinets for out-of-reach storage.
Soon, we'll start looking for beautiful and gently used classroom furniture and learning materials such as blocks, puzzles, etc. that align with our educational philosophy.
Isa will continue to prepare the licensing application, and have Ms. Jackie come and do a site visit before the state licensing analyst comes out. Kyle is taking the lead on facility updates, and putting together a KISA training curriculum for us.
We are aiming for an open house in late July to introduce The Music Box to the community, and an August opening date in line with the West Contra Costa Unified School District. We can't wait to start sharing more videos and updates with you all!
